Depending on the story missions and side-mission, I'll pick a Scout for rescues/Supply Drops, and a Sniper is a must on boss battles. My go-to squad for most 4-man missions: 2 Vanguards, 1 Support, 1 Heavy. And Snipers have a weird range with their rifles-they are easily penalized for being too close or too far (weapon range isn't what you think it is), and their Overwatch cone can't even cover an entire E-Hole, meaning enemies can crawl out and avoid it. When I first played on Intermediate, Scouts were making this game a cake-walk for me, except for the 2 boss battles I did. XCOM, and to a smaller extent, Phoenix Point), especially on higher difficulties where a single shotgun blast will just not do it. Snipers & Scouts are far too situation in this game compared to other titles (i.e. It's frequently my 3rd choice, unless I'm going with 2 Vanguards. Yes, the Heavy is a good choice, but really only once you get skills like Heat & Redeploy to high levels, or get lucky and get a weapon part for the cannon that has Disruptor on it. And to top it off, the flexibility of extra actions for the entire squad at a consistent rate and faster cooldowns can be down right OP in many situations The ability to constantly remove overwatch and bayonet/lancer charge without getting interrupted are life-saving. I restarted on Insane once I got the feel of the game, and I feel like Gabe (Support) and Sid/Cole (Vanguard) are are the most valuable overall.Command & Leech quickly become the best way to heal your squad, allowing you to ignore stims.
